Rodrigo Sobral Rollemberg

Governor of Brasilia

Rodrigo Sobral Rollemberg is 56 years old. He is married with Márcia Rollemberg, father of three - Gabriela, Ícaro and Pedro Ivo - and Mel’s grandfather. He has arrived in Brasília in 1960 along with his parents and 14 brothers and sisters. Graduated in History from the University of Brasília, he has been involved in politics since his school years. He was a Member of the local legislature for two consecutive terms, Secretary of Tourism in the Government of Brasília, representative to the House of Representatives and, before becoming Governor, Senator. He is one of the main leaders of the Brazilian Socialist Party (PSB), and a member since 1985.

During his first term in Congress, as a Representative, he has presided over the committee that discussed and granted more resources to expand the Brazilian maritime territory, also known as Blue Amazon. Mr Rollemberg also worked for the approval of the Transparency Act, obliging all branches of government to publicize their contracts and spending in real time in the web, for social control. He was one of the champions of the Clean Sheet Act that prohibited participation in the electoral process and election of politicians convicted in Justice.

During his term in the Senate, Mr Rollemberg presided over the Committee for the Environment, Consumer Defense, Oversight and Control. He was a representative of the Senate to the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, Rio+20, and authored the Proposition to Amend the Constitution that lowers the threshold of supporting signatures to bills presented by the population’s initiative.

In the Government of Brasília, Mr Rollemberg has worked since Day 1 for an administration committed with the people’s concerns and branded by austerity, transparency, dialogue, ethics and honesty. He performs a management style based on goals, monitoring results and sustainable development of cities, avoiding all types of waste and bad spending of public resources.
